Weekly Newsletter – June 30

Last weekend

Yarra Ranges Athletics returned to their favourite course at Lillydale Lake on the weekend. Some fantastic clearing work by council staff meant the normal course was possible, albeit with some additional slippery and muddy sections.

Athletes were determined to run hard with the prospect of a choccy frog for a course PB, so there was plenty of intensity and lots of mud. Well done to all our finishers, helpers and the set up crew for another fun morning of cross country.

This weekend

We return to Morrison Reserve where we hope to find some more mud and puddles.

Please note that there may be changes to the course due to storm damage. We endeavour to keep the course as close to its original as possible.

Arrive by 8:45am for races to begin by 9:00am.

Don’t forget to bring some warm clothes to change into afterwards!

Club training

Club training continues with 6-12yo training on Wednesdays at Morrison Reserve from 4pm with Kate.

Open age training on Tuesdays from 5.30pm at Morrison Reserve and Thursdays from 5.30 at Victoria Rd Primary School gym.

LAVic State Cross Country Championships entries close this Monday

The State Cross-Country Championships is an individual Cross-Country event. It is held on terrain that is undulating and provides a challenge to the athletes. The course may incorporate one or two laps depending on the distance and layout of the course.

The State Teams event only, will be conducted concurrent with the individual event at the State Cross-Country Championships.

State Championships is a direct entry event.

XCR 4 – 12km XC and 8km Invitational – Cruden Farm

Entries Close: THIS WEDNESDAY 7th July 2021, 11:59am (Midday)

Location: Cruden Farm, Langwarrin, VIC 3910

The 2021 Heritage Round is at Cruden Farm, hosting 8km and 12km distances. The grounds of Cruden Farm offer athletes a challenging course with a mixture of different terrains to accompany the beautiful areas encompassing the farm.

The change of date for this event (from Saturday 26 June to Saturday 10 July 2021) means there has been a long layoff since Lardner Park. Therefore, we will be offering an invitational non-XCR scoring 8km event at Cruden Farm, also on Saturday 10 July 2021, for Open Men and Women, W40, M40 and M50+, in addition to the previously scheduled events.

This event is an excellent opportunity for clubs to showcase their history, and we encourage each club to do so again in 2021.
