Father Christmas showed up at Morrison reserve on Saturday morning to surprise Yarra Ranges Athletics little athletes, showing a special love of athletics. The club held their final round of little athletics competition for 2020 on Saturday in perfect conditions at the Morrison Reserve Athletics Facility for athletes to run, jump and throw … and walk!
Walks, javelin and long hurdles (over 200m and 300m) were conducted early in the program. Athletes are very lucky to be coached on the day by some experts in their field. For athletes new to javelin in the Under 10 age group, Yarra Ranges Athletics javelin coach Graeme Woolridge was on hand to provide instruction on technique.
More importantly however there was a special visitor at the track on Saturday. Santa came to spread some cheer, lollipops and icy poles as athletes took a break from their activities to line up for a chat with the jolly man.
Any U9-U16 athletes interested in competing at the State Combined Events Championships should enter via the Little Athletics Victoria as soon as possible. Saturday competition will resume after the New Year break on Saturday 16 January at Morrison Reserve. Merry Christmas to all and a safe New Year to all from Yarra Ranges Little Athletics
Round four of AVSL was held in calm conditions and our athletes responded with some excellent performances. Good luck to athletes competing at Vic Milers on Tuesday evening.
A huge thanks to everyone who helped with the working bee on Sunday last week! A whole skip bin was filled and the shed is looking fantastic now!
Two Bays Trail Run Carpark – Sunday 17th January
This is a significant fundraiser each year, raising over $2000 with very few costs.
We operate a pay on entry carpark on normally closed lighthouse grounds for the event. Two Bays Trail Run has over 1000 entrants, and many tourists visit the area also. The carpark plays a vital role in reducing ‘on road’ parking.
The location is the gorgeous Cape Schanck, and with enough helpers it leaves plenty of time for sightseeing while in the area.
Sunday 17th January. Earliest start is approx 6.30am, latest finish approx 3pm (with enough helpers the full duration is not required)
Tasks are directing cars / collecting parking fees / radio communication. Simple and shareable tasks.
Volunteers receive some reimbursement for fuel and food.

Little Athletics Resumes 16th January 2021
The club wishes all of the Yarra Ranges Athletics families a very safe and happy Christmas.
A massive congratulations to everybody involved in our brief season of athletics – athletes, parents, helpers, officials and committee, we thank you all for the tenacity that you have shown. 2020 has been a significant departure from what we would consider a “traditional” year, and we are so privileged to have the community that we do to get us through the challenges.
We look forward to seeing you all back when Littles resumes on Saturday 16th January 2021.
Registration are open for both Little Athletics and our senior team via Athletics Victoria. The club welcomes and encourages all athletes of any age or ability.

Session format: warm up, drills, main session (changes each week), strength, stretching and mobility. Parents can join in too!

Due to COVID-19, understandably there are some changes to the that we events can be operated in order to align with State Government Health and Safety standards and ask that all members are aware of the format and processes associated this coming season.
